Hidden in nature

The site, in a dramatic position perched on the top of an exposed cliff facing north into the bay of Combe Martin and the South coast of Wales was originally occupied by a bungalow. It is located in the AONB but not easily visible from anywhere except the sea. The project is a speculative venture with the intention of creating a dramatic yet relevant building echoing both the landscape and modern culture.

The challenge, was to maximise the exceptional northerly view from the living areas whilst taking advantage of the Inland south sun.

The triangular plan was adopted, firstly to create a building one room deep in the area of the view, and secondly, to place the bulk of the building next to the western entrance.

The house’s unique position, between its two ‘cliff’ walls and proximity to the sea, lead to its title ‘Stealth House’. Practically undetectable from the nearby road, the house offers an extremely private location despite such monumental views.
